Kim Min-su "Yoon, Show a Strong Blow" and Other Controversial Remarks Supporting Martial Law
People Power Party spokesperson Kim Minsu voluntarily resigned half a day after controversy arose over his remarks defending President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration of martial law, saying the president "showed a strong move." However, former spokesperson Kim did not back down from his stance on martial law, stating, "I will fight properly."
On the 6th, the People Power Party announced, "Kim, who was appointed spokesperson today, took responsibility for his remarks related to martial law and voluntarily resigned from the spokesperson position."
Earlier, on the day after the declaration of martial law, the 5th of last month, former spokesperson Kim appeared on the YouTube channel 'Goseongguk TV' and defended martial law, saying, "Martial law was declared, and the military took over the National Election Commission within 2 to 3 minutes. It's amazing. This is truly Yoon Seok-yeol. He really showed a strong move," drawing public criticism.
Regarding the martial law troops entering the National Election Commission, he also defended the action, saying, "This is the Gwacheon landing operation. The National Election Commission landing operation," and added, "It is a forbidden area, the National Election Commission has become a den for criminals. Even the president and prosecutors dared not touch it recklessly, but under the name of martial law, they took out materials from there."
He also criticized the martial law troops for not actively blocking lawmakers in the National Assembly, saying, "I am a former army officer, and seeing the martial law troops, they were only at the level of a five-minute standby unit of a regiment," and added, "Even if I went, I would block them better than that."
When these remarks were reported by the media, former spokesperson Kim posted on his social media, "I was appointed spokesperson of the People Power Party today, and I am voluntarily resigning today," adding, "Although the articles are somewhat altered from my original intent, if it burdens the party, I will willingly resign without hesitation." However, he added, "I will fight properly," maintaining his position.
Earlier, People Power Party emergency committee chairman Kwon Young-se appointed eight non-parliamentary figures as spokespersons, including Kim Ki-heung, Kim Dong-won, Kim Minsu, Park Min-young, Jeong Gwang-jae, Jo Yong-sul, Ham In-kyung, and Ho Jun-seok. Among them, spokesperson Kim Dong-won also sparked controversy as he was known for raising 'election fraud suspicions' on a YouTube broadcast.
On the 11th of last month, spokesperson Kim appeared on Asia Today TV's YouTube broadcast in a video titled 'This is How Election Fraud Was Committed,' stating, "If decisive evidence or witnesses emerge showing that certain forces manipulated the election fraud, there is a considerable possibility of a major turnaround in the impeachment situation. I am closely monitoring that."
