Taean County Council in Chungnam announced on the 6th that Chairperson Jeon Jaeok has received both the '2024 Korea Local Autonomy Evaluation-Linked Legislative Policy Award' and the '2024 Gender Equality Policy Award'.
The Local Autonomy Evaluation-Linked Legislative Policy Award is presented to local council members who have contributed to the development of local governments and legislative activities, such as revitalizing the local autonomy system and proposing policies for residents' happiness.
The winners are selected annually through an objective evaluation of the happiness index data, which is statistically compiled by the public interest organization Monitoring Korea, as well as the degree of contribution to ordinance proposals and local policies.
Chairperson Jeon was recognized for her contributions to improving the quality of life for residents and enhancing regional competitiveness by proposing various ordinances during the 9th Taean County Council, including the 'Ordinance for Suicide Prevention and the Creation of a Culture of Respect for Life', a five-minute free speech calling for the establishment of 'Climate Response and Sustainable Agricultural Policies', and, in particular, the 'Ordinance on Creating a Safe Return Home Environment' to prevent crime against residents, as well as the 'Ordinance on Safety Management for Outdoor Events'.
Jeon Jaeok stated, "I am delighted to receive such a significant award as a result of last year's legislative activities. I would like to dedicate this honor to the residents who always support and encourage me," and added, "As the chairperson, I will take on even greater responsibility and strive to carry out more diligent legislative activities with policies that can truly benefit the residents."
Meanwhile, Chairperson Jeon was also selected as a recipient in the legislative category of the '2024 Gender Equality Policy Award', co-hosted by Women’s News and the National Network of Female Local Council Members, on the 26th of last month.
Chairperson Jeon has been receiving great support from residents for her legislative activities aimed at promoting the rights and interests of female farmers and fishers in Taean County, as well as for implementing women-friendly and socially inclusive policies.
