Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) once again demonstrated a beautiful example of public-private cooperation through the voluntary participation of citizens in snow removal, despite the heavy snowfall that began on a weekend morning.

On the morning of the 5th at 8:30 AM, a heavy snow warning was issued for the Hanam area, and the sudden snowfall accumulated up to 2.5 cm. However, thanks to the prompt response of the citizens, the city was still able to operate vibrantly.
Hanam City quickly spread 200 tons of de-icing agents on major roads to prevent traffic restrictions, and deployed a total of 118 personnel and 34 snow removal trucks to carry out snow clearing operations. Nevertheless, there were still limitations in clearing all roads.
At this time, over 300 citizens from 14 neighborhoods voluntarily gathered. Members of related organizations and citizens did not hesitate to engage in snow removal, greatly contributing to making roads inaccessible to snow removal vehicles safe. The dedication of these citizens deeply moved those around them.
In particular, they focused on clearing snow in areas directly related to citizen safety, such as bus stops, slopes, and side streets, putting great effort into preventing fall accidents. The voluntary participation of citizens went beyond simple snow removal work, serving as a model of a community spirit that cares for one another.
The sight of citizens united with shovels in hand to clear snow was truly moving. This activity brought surprise and warm emotion to many, deepening trust in neighbors and the local community.
Mayor Lee Hyun-jae of Hanam said, “The voluntary snow removal activities of Hanam citizens are our city’s pride, and this is an example that shows the ideal of a community where the public and private sectors unite beyond simple snow removal.” He added, “The citizens’ snow removal efforts that shone during this heavy snowfall are a beautiful example of community strength in difficult situations and serve as a model for many.”
He continued, “Our city will continue to work with citizens to create a safe and happy city,” and said, “The warm stories of Hanam City will continue.”
