Eulji University Student Kyungmin Lee from Department of Addiction Rehabilitation Welfare Wins Grand Prize in Domestic Competition

Kyungmin Lee, a senior student majoring in Addiction Rehabilitation Welfare at Eulji University (President Hong Seong-hee), won the grand prize in the "2024 Borderline Intellectual Functioning Awareness Improvement Program and Promotional Content Contest."

According to Eulji University on the 6th, the Seoul Metropolitan Borderline Intellectual Functioning Lifelong Education Support Center (hereinafter referred to as the MIM Center) held the award ceremony for the "2024 Borderline Intellectual Functioning Awareness Improvement Program and Promotional Content Contest" at the Peace and Park Convention inside the War Memorial in Yongsan-gu last December.

At the ceremony, Kyungmin Lee from the Department of Addiction Rehabilitation Welfare at Eulji University was honored with the grand prize for the contest entry titled "A Cultural and Artistic Activity Program Involving Borderline Intellectual Functioning Adolescents and Average Intelligence Adolescents."

This contest was divided into program and promotional content (webtoon, slogan) categories. The program category involved a first round of document screening and a second round of on-site presentations, while the promotional content category was judged through document screening. Eleven excellent programs and 24 outstanding promotional contents passed the preliminary round. The final round determined the grand prize, excellence awards, and merit awards through final judging.

The grand prize-winning work was highly praised by the judges for aiming to improve the cognitive abilities of adolescents with borderline intellectual functioning while simultaneously promoting awareness of borderline intellectual functioning among school staff and the general public. It created a space for exchange and harmony through community activities mediated by art.

Kyungmin Lee expressed, "I am very pleased to receive the grand prize as an individual participant in a contest involving various practitioners. I will continue to work on raising awareness about borderline intellectual functioning and further contribute to program development in various social welfare fields."

Professor Junhyuk Kang, advisor for the contest and faculty member of the Department of Addiction Rehabilitation Welfare at Eulji University, said, "I suggested to Kyungmin Lee to create an awareness improvement program where community members can feel and change together with individuals with borderline intellectual functioning, rather than simply delivering a message to the public. It seems this attempt led to a good result."

Meanwhile, the MIM Center is leading efforts to support healthy growth and independence as active agents for individuals with borderline intellectual functioning, their families, and related workers, including through this contest.
