At the Opening Ceremony: Concerns Over a 'Politically Driven IMF Crisis' Due to Government Paralysis
On the 6th, Kim Taehoon, Governor of South Chungcheong Province, emphasized, "Let us move forward unwaveringly with the spirit of 'Eungbyeonchangsin' this year, in true Strong Chungnam fashion." 'Eungbyeonchangsin' means to proactively respond to changes and take the initiative in pioneering new paths.
At the New Year's kick-off ceremony held at the Provincial Government's Culture and Arts Center, Governor Kim expressed his deep condolences and sympathy to the victims and bereaved families of the Muan Jeju Air passenger plane accident, stating, "South Chungcheong Province will spare no effort in supporting the victims and managing the aftermath of the accident."
He continued, "We have nearly achieved our targeted government budget of 11 trillion won, and have attracted over 32 trillion won in domestic and foreign investment, already more than doubling what was accomplished in four years under the 7th popularly elected administration."
Governor Kim asserted, "Due to extreme political turmoil, the Republic of Korea is now in a state akin to anarchy," and added, "With the paralysis of state affairs, not only is national credibility declining, but economic uncertainty is also rising, raising concerns about a 'politically-induced IMF crisis.'"
He further stated, "At times like this, it is truly regrettable that instead of refraining from pursuing partisan interests and uniting for the future of the nation and its people, such unity is lacking."
He emphasized, "Nevertheless, what we must do remains unchanged," and urged, "Let us move forward for the residents of the province without hesitation in the new year."
Governor Kim asked, "I hope all public officials will steadfastly carry out provincial administration so that we can achieve this year's plans and goals without setbacks."
