Spoke at the upcoming private general meeting
Warned of suspicions related to Acting Chief Choi during the execution of Yoon's arrest warrant
Spokesperson Jo Seung-rae: "If no related measures are taken, legal action will follow"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized Choi Sang-mok, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, on the 6th regarding the non-execution of the arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol. Lee referred to Acting Prime Minister Choi as committing a 'second act of rebellion' and raised questions about his responsibility.
At the Democratic Party lawmakers' meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Lee said, "President Yoon tried to become a king by destroying our community order, but now he is on the path of a prisoner," and criticized, "Acting Prime Minister Choi, who is responsible for managing this situation, seems to be engaging in acts that destroy order rather than maintaining it."
Originally, the lawmakers' meeting was scheduled to proceed without public remarks, but the schedule was changed for Lee to make a public statement. This is interpreted as a de facto public warning to Acting Prime Minister Choi.
He pointed out, "The Presidential Security Service is resisting the execution of the arrest warrant, which was lawfully issued by the court, by mobilizing force and even armed personnel, and I suspect that the responsible acting official is not restraining but rather supporting this."
Specifically, Lee said, "If the Presidential Security Service is illegally obstructing the lawful execution of the warrant by the court, it is clearly an illegal act," and added, "There should be measures such as suspension or dismissal, but instead, there are reports that the police were requested to support the Presidential Security Service, and the police refused. We have repeatedly demanded the Presidential Security Service to guard, command, and refrain from illegal acts, but these demands have been ignored."
He continued, "I believe such acts are another form of rebellion aimed at pursuing private interests through the destruction of order," and said, "I seriously think we should strictly hold accountable the acting president for these acts of disorder and the second act of rebellion."
The Democratic Party decided to consider filing a complaint against Acting Prime Minister Choi in this regard.
Cho Seung-rae, senior spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said in a meeting with reporters after the Supreme Council meeting, "Acting Prime Minister Choi has the duty to uphold constitutional order and maintain the rule of law," and added, "Our (Democratic Party's) judgment is that he is effectively participating in or condoning acts that destroy order."
Spokesperson Cho pointed out, "The key to maintaining order and restoring constitutional order is the proper progression of the impeachment process," and said, "Regarding the full-scale investigation, Acting Prime Minister Choi is neglecting the recommendation for a permanent special prosecutor, the appointment of one constitutional court justice, the appointment of a Supreme Court justice, and the command over the Presidential Security Service's non-compliance with the arrest warrant."
Regarding this, he said, "If related measures are not taken today, we will file a complaint."
Spokesperson Cho said, "The execution of the arrest warrant is currently the strongest national indicator," and mentioned, "Foreign media and markets do not understand why the arrest warrant for Yoon Seok-yeol is not being executed." Since overseas views see the arrest of President Yoon as an indicator of credibility or political stabilization, urgent related measures are necessary.
