Kwon Youngse: "Democratic Party Aims for Early Presidential Election Before Lee Jaemyung's Second Trial Verdict"

Kwon Youngse, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, criticized on the 6th, "The Democratic Party of Korea is pushing a rapid offensive, unilaterally framing the government and the ruling party for insurrection and even undermining the rule of law, all with the goal of holding an early presidential election before the second trial verdict on Lee Jaemyung's election law violation."

At the Emergency Response Committee meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Kwon stated, "Yesterday, the Democratic Party held a general assembly of its lawmakers and pressured the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) in every possible way, declaring, 'Execute the arrest warrant by any means necessary. Stake the fate of the organization on it.'"

Kwon further pointed out, "The Democratic Party also threatened Choi Sangmok, Deputy Prime Minister and Acting President as well as Minister of Economy and Finance, warning that they would hold him accountable unless the Chief of the Presidential Security Service was dismissed from his post," adding, "This goes beyond the tyranny of the majority party and amounts to dictatorship by the majority."

He also criticized the CIO for attempting to execute an arrest warrant against President Yoon Sukyeol. Kwon said, "Given the current situation, it appears that the CIO is using the political crisis as a tool to consolidate its own position, seriously undermining the fairness of the judicial system. I express deep regret over the CIO's misconduct." He continued, "The CIO has no legal basis to investigate insurrection charges, yet it is recklessly seeking and attempting to execute warrants. The saying that 'the CIO is a puppet of the Democratic Party' did not arise without reason."

He emphasized, "Rather than being swayed by the Democratic Party's political agitation, the CIO should conduct its investigations within the boundaries of the law, considering the dignity of the nation. Even in the case of a president whose duties are merely suspended, investigations should proceed according to the principles of the Criminal Procedure Act, using voluntary investigation methods."
