Buk-gu Gwangju to Promote Used Battery Collection

'Smart Waste Battery Collection Box' Operates 24 Hours

Buk-gu, Gwangju City is taking steps to promote the collection of used batteries.

Buk-gu announced on the 6th that it has recently signed a "Smart Used Battery Collection Box Installation Business Agreement" with the Gwangju Jeonnam Jeju Environmental Headquarters of Korea Environment Corporation and the Korea Battery Circulation Resources Association.

According to the agreement, the two organizations will share roles such as operating smart used battery collection boxes and promoting the separation and disposal of used batteries, establishing a cooperative system.

By institution, the corporation will support the "installation and operation costs of smart used battery collection boxes," while the association will provide "new batteries for rewards." The district office will be responsible for "collecting and transferring used batteries" and "managing collection boxes and reward items."

The smart used battery collection box will be installed on the first floor of the Sinyeong-dong Administrative Welfare Center and operated unmanned 24 hours a day for one year from this month until December. For every 0.8kg (about 20 pieces) of used batteries, residents can receive one set (2 pieces) of new batteries (AA or AAA) as a reward.
