Dong-Eui Science University Opens Mentoring Contest for Major Subjects

The Center for Teaching and Learning Development at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do), led by Director Cho Chae-young, concluded the 'Major Subject Mentoring Contest' on December 24th in the university's Industry-Academia-Research Active Learning Room.

This competition served as a closing event to review the achievements of the major subject mentoring program from the second semester. Outstanding students were selected and rewarded, and the event provided an opportunity for information exchange and communication to further develop the program.

The major subject mentoring program connects senior students or peers with excellent academic abilities and strong communication skills as mentors to juniors or peers in need as mentees, offering psychological and emotional support and helping them adapt smoothly to university life. It is an academic competency enhancement program designed to assist students in studying difficult subjects and to foster interest in learning through collaborative study.

As a result of the public presentation evaluation, nursing student Choi Won-jung received the grand prize, with 2 students awarded gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze prizes.

Choi Won-jung, the grand prize winner, said, "Just spending a semester happily with my mentees was very meaningful, and I am extremely pleased to receive such a great award. Through mentoring, I was able to further develop my communication and leadership skills and deeply feel the bond between seniors and juniors."

Director Cho Chae-young of the Center for Teaching and Learning Development stated, "Mentoring is a special process where mentors and mentees grow and learn together beyond simply transferring knowledge. Through this, students have likely developed more mature and solid major competencies. We hope that this competition will highlight the importance of mentoring and further activate the mentoring culture within the university."

The Center for Teaching and Learning Development at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology actively conducts various learning support programs and special lectures annually, including community experience learning and JUMP-UP for students on academic probation, in addition to the mentoring program, to support students' academic success.
