On the 3rd (local time), the US stock market rebounded sharply, drawing attention to whether the domestic stock market on the 6th will rise influenced by this trend.
On the 3rd, the US stock market showed strength centered on big tech companies as bargain buying flowed in following five consecutive trading days of adjustment.
Hwang Sanhae, a researcher at LS Securities, analyzed, "After five consecutive trading days of decline, strengthened bargain buying sentiment led to a successful rebound fueled by improvements in manufacturing conditions and anticipation for the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition, CES 2025. In particular, Tesla (+8.2%), which had plunged due to poor electric vehicle (EV) delivery numbers in the previous trading day, rebounded supported by investment banks (IBs), and buying momentum was seen mainly in tech stocks such as Nvidia (+4.4%) and the semiconductor sector (SOX, +2.8%)."
This week, the domestic stock market is expected to be influenced by the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) minutes, Samsung Electronics' preliminary earnings announcement, and CES 2025.
Han Jiyoung, a researcher at Kiwoom Securities, said, "Samsung Electronics' preliminary Q4 earnings scheduled for the 8th is an event that cannot be overlooked when forecasting the direction of the KOSPI. The consensus operating profit for Samsung Electronics' Q4, updated and presented by securities firms over the past week, is about 7.7 trillion won, which is a downward revision compared to the overall market consensus of 8.6 trillion won."
Additionally, with the lingering hawkish effects of the December FOMC, the US December employment data on the 9th is expected to impact major global stock markets through next week, according to the researcher.
Kim Ji-won, a researcher at KB Securities, pointed out, "Attention should be paid to whether confidence in the economy recovers following US manufacturing indicators and whether anxiety calms down due to the pre-reflection of domestic and international political uncertainties. Along with CES 2025, FOMC minutes, employment reports, and Samsung Electronics' earnings this week, the US corporate earnings season has also begun."
