"Refuse Home Parties and After Parties"
"95% Chance They Are Not Safe Parties"

Broadcaster Hong Seok-cheon warned about the dangers of drugs and urged people not to attend overseas parties.

On the 4th, Hong Seok-cheon posted on Instagram a photo of a shirtless man who appeared unconscious, along with the phrase "No drug." In the photo, the man was unable to support himself and was being dragged by two other men.

Hong Seok-cheon commented, "Is this why you go to parties?" and pointed out, "People get dragged out while intoxicated on drugs. Some even die like that." He continued, "Please don't go to overseas parties at the end of the year," expressing concern for "young people."

This is not the first time Hong Seok-cheon has warned about the dangers of drugs. On the 26th of last month, he also posted on Instagram, addressing younger siblings going abroad from this weekend until the end of the year, saying, "As an older senior, I want to say this to both young men and women: It's good to have fun and make memories in your youth, but please do so safely and avoid doing anything strange." He added, "If someone suggests going to a club, home party, or after party, refuse immediately. Ninety-five percent of the time, it won't be the safe party you think it is. There's no need to have such experiences. Don't forget and remember this well," emphasizing, "No drug, yes condom."

Additionally, in a drug eradication campaign video released in November last year by the Korea Drug Prevention Movement Headquarters under the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Hong Seok-cheon said, "Drugs harm our bodies and minds. They also harm my friends and my family. The most important thing is not to start. Never start drugs."

Meanwhile, according to the '2023 Drug Crime White Paper' published by the Supreme Prosecutors' Office's Drug and Organized Crime Division in June last year, the number of drug offenders arrested in 2023 reached 27,611, surpassing 20,000 for the first time and setting a record high. This represents a 50% increase compared to 18,395 in the previous year. In particular, drug offenders in their teens and twenties increased significantly. The number of teenage drug offenders in 2023 was 1,477, more than three times the 481 in the previous year. Drug offenders in their twenties also rose to 8,368 in 2023, a 44.2% increase from 5,804 the previous year. The proportion of offenders in their teens and twenties among all drug offenders was 35.6%, maintaining the mid-30% range since 2021.
