Russian Soldier Who Heeded Plea to Stop Fighting: "Because I Was Taught to Remain Human"
A video showing Ukrainian and Russian soldiers dying after a brutal battle has been released.
On the 4th (local time), Russian local media such as REN TV reported that a video of Russian and Ukrainian soldiers engaging in close-quarters combat in a ruined village in Donetsk, Ukraine, has recently been shared on Telegram and other platforms. The video, apparently filmed with a camera mounted on a Ukrainian soldier's helmet, shows the two soldiers initially exchanging gunfire with a building between them. As the distance between them closed, the Ukrainian soldier grabbed the muzzle of the Russian soldier's automatic rifle, and the Russian soldier drew a dagger and attacked the Ukrainian soldier.
Afterwards, the two soldiers grappled in hand-to-hand combat, and during the fight, the severely wounded Ukrainian soldier collapsed and pleaded to stop fighting, saying, "You are the world's greatest warrior," and that he wanted to quietly pass away. The identity of this soldier is unknown, but he said goodbye with "Mom, goodbye" before pulling out a grenade and detonating it. Although the video was recently released, it is reported that it was filmed last fall.
In the video, the Russian soldier called by the callsign "Tuta" is Andrey Grigoriev, a volunteer from Yakutia, Siberia, according to Russian media RT. Grigoriev explained that the deceased Ukrainian soldier had killed his friend at the time. He said, "I never intended to engage in a knife fight with a Ukrainian soldier, but at that moment, there was no other choice but to fight up close," adding, "Recalling that time is very difficult." Regarding not delivering the final blow and exchanging farewells, he said, "I was taught that no matter the situation, one must remain human," and added, "I already knew he was in a condition where he could not get up anymore."
Meanwhile, on the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that a battalion of North Korean troops deployed on the Russian Kursk front was annihilated within just two days, calling it a "meaningful event." President Zelensky did not provide further details, but foreign media interpreted the "one battalion" to generally mean several hundred soldiers. It is known that the Russian army is pushing the Ukrainian forces by continuously deploying troops and accepting heavy casualties using human wave tactics, with North Korean troops at the forefront.
