Samsung D Unveils '18.1-inch Foldable OLED' for the First Time at CES 2025

New IT and Automotive OLED Products Unveiled

Samsung Display announced on the 5th that it will hold an exhibition for its clients at CES 2025, the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition, held from the 7th to the 10th (local time) in Las Vegas, USA, focusing on IT devices such as tablets, laptops, monitors, and automotive OLED products.

Samsung Display will unveil for the first time an 18.1-inch foldable product, which is about the size of a small monitor when unfolded, and will exhibit various types of slidable products and multi-foldable products that fold more than twice. For automotive use, new products will be introduced, including the UPC (Under Panel Camera) that hides a camera under the display to assist safe driving, the bendable CID (Center Information Display) that curves to fit the shape of the dashboard, and a large-screen HUD (Head Up Display) that replaces the instrument cluster to reduce weight and increase space utilization.

Various new form factor products that allow imagining the future of IT devices will also be showcased. In particular, the 18.1-inch foldable product for IT use will be unveiled for the first time. The screen size when unfolded is as large as two tablets combined, but when folded, it is 13.1 inches, making it easy to carry like a small laptop. It supports touch functionality, allowing it to be used as a tablet or laptop depending on the situation, and can also be used like a monitor together with peripherals such as a keyboard. Previously, Samsung Display introduced a 17.3-inch foldable panel for IT use in 2022.

Additionally, products such as the 'Slidable Flex Duet,' which can expand the tablet screen from 8.1 inches to 12.4 inches by pulling both sides, and the 'Slidable Flex Solo,' which can extend one side of the tablet in one direction to enlarge the 13-inch screen to 17.3 inches, will be exhibited. The 'Slidable Flex Vertical,' which is usually carried at a compact 5.1-inch size smaller than a typical smartphone but can be vertically extended to 6.7 inches when needed, will also be showcased.

A space where visitors can intuitively experience the distinctive advantages of IT devices equipped with OLED has been prepared. In a space themed 'Unleash your potential,' visitors can encounter various scenarios where OLED elevates the usability of evolving IT devices to the next level.

Along with this, a media art space has been created using numerous large panels including the brighter TV QD-OLED and new monitor QD-OLED products, offering visitors standing in front of the displays a vivid experience as if they were actually inside a forest, called the 'QD Jungle.' The newly unveiled 2025 QD-OLED incorporates advanced panel driving technology and new organic materials, achieving a maximum brightness of over 4000 nits by combining the brightness of each RGB, which is about 30% higher than the previous year and the brightest among existing OLED TV panels. The new monitor panel product has the highest pixel density among currently released self-emissive monitors, and a pre-release technology product with even higher image quality will also be introduced proactively.

At the entrance of the exhibition hall, a 'robot dog' will greet visitors, adding to the enjoyment of the visit. This robot dog is a robot used by Samsung Display Vietnam (SDV) for unmanned infrastructure operation, newly programmed for this exhibition and equipped with a circular OLED at the eye position, reborn under the name 'OLEDog.' OLEDog will perform tap dancing on panels placed on the floor, do tumbling moves, and kick flexible panels hanging in the air with its hind legs, among other performances.
