Yeungnam University, Regular Admission Competition Rate 5.28:1... Life Sciences 10:1, Political Science 9.5:1

Yeungnam University (President Choi Oechul) closed the application period for the 2025 regular admissions at 6 p.m. on the 3rd, with 4,508 applicants competing for 854 spots (within the quota), recording an average competition rate of 5.28 to 1. Compared to last year's regular admissions competition rate of 4.76 to 1 (904 spots / 4,307 applicants), both the number of applicants and the competition rate increased.


The Department of Life Sciences showed the highest competition rate at 10 to 1, followed by Fiber Systems Engineering at 9.56 to 1, Political Science and Diplomacy at 9.5 to 1, Chinese Character Education at 9.4 to 1, Physics at 9.14 to 1, Product Design (practical skills focused) at 8.5 to 1, Public Administration at 7.92 to 1, Visual Design (practical skills focused) at 7.9 to 1, Forest Resources at 7.86 to 1, Chinese Language and Culture at 7.71 to 1, Industrial Design (practical skills focused) at 7.67 to 1, and International Development Saemaul Studies at 7.5 to 1, showing high competition rates.

President Choi Oechul of Yeungnam University stated, “Following the record-high number of applicants in the 2025 early admissions and the highest registration rate of early admission successful candidates in the region, the increase in competition rate for regular admissions compared to the previous year is a result of examinees’ trust in Yeungnam University’s school-wide efforts to enhance youth capabilities demanded by the times, despite the declining school-age population and preference for the metropolitan area.” He added, “Yeungnam University’s efforts to nurture talents that meet social demands and contribute to human society are gaining empathy. We will continue to strive to maintain Yeungnam University’s differentiated educational competitiveness.”


Meanwhile, Yeungnam University will conduct practical exams for applicants in the arts and physical education fields as follows: Group ‘Na’ (Department of Physical Education, Department of Painting, Department of Visual Design, Department of Industrial Design, Department of Product Design) on the 22nd, and Group ‘Da’ (Department of Special Physical Education) on the 23rd. Successful candidates will be announced on February 7, 2025.
