Biden to Sell 11 Trillion Won Worth of Weapons to Israel Ahead of Retirement

Virtually the 'Last Gift'... Including Fighter Jets and Military Supplies

U.S. President Joe Biden, who is nearing the end of his term, has decided to sell weapons worth $8 billion (approximately 11.7 trillion KRW) to Israel as a de facto final support during his presidency.

On the 3rd (local time), U.S. internet media Axios and others reported, citing sources, that the U.S. State Department notified Congress of the plan to sell weapons to Israel. According to the report, this arms sale will provide Israel with military supplies and ammunition for fighter jets and attack helicopters. Specifically, it includes AIM-120C air-to-air missiles for fighter jets, drones, 155mm shells, AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-ground missiles, small-caliber rounds, and Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM), among others.

A U.S. official stated that the purpose of this sale plan is "to support Israel's long-term security by replenishing critical military supplies and defense capabilities." The official added, "The President has made it clear that Israel has the right to defend its citizens in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law and to deter aggression from Iran and its proxies," and "We will continue to provide the capabilities necessary for Israel's defense."

The U.S. administration must obtain congressional approval before selling weapons abroad under the Federal Arms Export Control Act. This is expected to be the last arms sale to Israel during President Biden's term. Despite some opposition, the Biden administration has continuously sold weapons to Israel, a key ally in the Middle East.
