Democratic Party on 'Presidential Security Service Resistance': "Those Who Obstructed Yoon's Arrest Will Be Held Accountable"

Park Chan-dae "If the Corruption Investigation Office or police obstruct law enforcement, they should be immediately arrested as co-conspirators in rebellion"

The Democratic Party of Korea stated on the 3rd that it will "hold all those who obstructed the execution of President Yoon Seok-yeol's arrest warrant accountable."

Park Chan-dae, the Democratic Party floor leader, told reporters during a party meeting at the National Assembly that day, "The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials and the police are executing the arrest warrant for Yoon Seok-yeol. During the arrest process, personnel from the Security Office and those presumed to be from the Capital Defense Command are obstructing official duties. The head of the Security Office reportedly refused the search despite being presented with the arrest warrant," criticizing it as "an inexcusable serious crime in flagrante delicto."

After mentioning the names of the Security Office's top officials, Floor Leader Park said, "I hope they make a wise choice so that their subordinates in the Security Office do not suffer unjust or unfair punishment due to their wrong decisions," and warned, "Anyone who obstructs lawful and legitimate law enforcement, regardless of who they are, must be punished for special obstruction of official duties, abuse of rights, obstruction of the exercise of rights, concealment of a criminal, and as an accomplice to insurrection."

He added, "Since they are caught in flagrante delicto, we urge the Corruption Investigation Office and the police to immediately arrest them on the spot."

Floor Leader Park also said, "Yoon Seok-yeol is the ringleader of insurrection who disrupted the constitutional order by even ordering gunfire and a major criminal of foreign exchange crimes who tried to kill the people by starting a war," and added, "The claim that Yoon Seok-yeol should be protected is the same as saying one should protect a robber who breaks into a house with a knife." He said, "I hope people do not fall victim to the madman's false agitation who tried to push the people into the trenches of war," and added, "Handling the insurrection is the fastest way to stabilize the government."

No Jong-myeon, the Democratic Party floor spokesperson, said, "The responsibility for command and supervision over the head of the Security Office lies with Choi Sang-mok, the acting president and deputy prime minister for economic affairs as well as the minister of strategy and finance," and added, "He must clearly order the Security Office to cooperate with the execution of the warrant." Regarding this, there were talks within the party that "the Democratic Party should communicate directly with Acting President Choi, even face-to-face if necessary."

Spokesperson No also said, "According to what the Democratic Party confirmed through the military authorities, the standoff with the military has been resolved for now," and added, "The on-site commanders have been instructed not to contact the military."
