When the National Assembly Comes Together, Stability for the People Ensues
On the 3rd, Kim Sang-hoon, the Policy Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, proposed to the Democratic Party of Korea that from next week, when the national mourning period ends, the two parties' policy committee chairmen hold working-level meetings regarding the formation and operation of the ruling-opposition consultative body.
On the same day, during the People Power Party's floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly in the morning, Chairman Kim said, "The economy is said to be about psychology. When the National Assembly shows a united front to address people's livelihoods, public sentiment stabilizes, and stable public sentiment will lay the foundation for the recovery of the livelihood economy."
According to the 2025 Economic Policy Direction announced by the government the previous day, the government expects this year's economic growth rate to be 1.8% due to negative factors such as a decline in export growth, a decrease in the increase of employed persons, a slowdown in domestic demand recovery, and protectionism following the inauguration of the new U.S. administration.
In response, the government plans to focus on four major priority areas: recovery of the livelihood economy, management of external credibility, response to the trade environment, and strengthening industrial competitiveness, selecting 230 tasks to address these issues. In particular, it plans to prepare an 18 trillion won economic reinforcement package mobilizing all public resources to revitalize the domestic economy and improve people's livelihoods.

Chairman Kim pointed out, "The government presenting a 1% level economic growth rate is only the second time in two years since 2023," adding, "I believe the economy felt by the people is even colder due to political strife stained by impeachment and special investigations." He then emphasized, "The People Power Party promises to fulfill its responsibility as the ruling party to ensure that this year's economic policies are implemented swiftly and accurately."
Regarding the handling of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster that occurred at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do, he said, "The bereaved families have expressed various requests such as maintaining a joint memorial altar for the mourning space, providing emergency living expenses support, operating a bereaved families' council, extending tax payment deadlines, and granting special leave and leave of absence." He added, "The People Power Party will thoroughly monitor the situation and devote all party efforts to ensure that various supports are provided promptly."
He continued, "Through the National Assembly special committee to be formed soon, we will do our best as the government and ruling party to systematically promote various bereaved family support measures, memorial projects, and the establishment of recurrence prevention measures."
