BTS J-Hope Donates 100 Million KRW to Families of Jeju Air Disaster Victims "Deep Condolences"

Group BTS member J-Hope (Jung Hoseok) has been reported to have donated 100 million won to support victims of the Jeju Air disaster that occurred at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do.

On the 2nd, Yonhap News reported that the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association announced that BTS’s J-Hope donated 100 million won to support victims of the Jeju Air disaster. Through the association, J-Hope said, "Upon hearing the news of the accident, I decided to donate to help the bereaved families affected by the tragedy, even if only a little," and added, "I extend my deepest condolences and sympathy not only to the bereaved families but also to everyone grieving over this accident."


J-Hope is a member of the high-value donor group 'Hope Bridge Honors Club' and also participated in flood relief donations in 2023. Shin Hoon, Secretary General of Hope Bridge, said, "We are grateful for J-Hope’s heartfelt support for the bereaved families," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that the warm donation sent by J-Hope is fully delivered to the families."


J-Hope, who is from Gwangju Metropolitan City, expressed his affection for his hometown by including lyrics such as "I’m a baby from Gwangju, Jeollanam-do" and "Even if my footsteps go to the mountains, to the top of Mudeungsan" in BTS’s song 'MA CITY.' It has been confirmed that the majority of the victims of this disaster were residents of the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions, with 81 from Gwangju and 76 from Jeonnam.


Earlier, Jeju Air flight 7C2216, which departed from Bangkok, Thailand, attempted a belly landing on the runway at Muan Airport around 9:03 a.m. on the 29th of last month after failing to deploy the landing gear. The aircraft collided with airport facilities and was engulfed in flames. Except for two crew members, all 179 passengers on board died. The government has designated a seven-day national mourning period until midnight on the 4th.


In the entertainment industry, condolences and donations to support recovery efforts for the victims continued. Park Narae, who is from Muan, donated through the Community Chest of Korea, saying, "I extend my deepest condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families who have lost their beloved family members and are in deep sorrow. I also sincerely thank everyone working hard on-site in the cold weather." Actor Im Siwan also donated to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association, and Lovelyz’s Jin, singer DinDin, and others donated to the Korean Red Cross. Additionally, the couple Hong Hyunhee and Jae-sun, announcer Lim Hyunju, and broadcaster Jang Sungkyu also participated in donations.
