New Year's Visit to the Hyeonchungtap and Jeong Yak-yong's Tomb
Reading of 'Our Resolution'... Commitment to Public Officials' Responsibility and Role
Joo Gwang-deok, Mayor of Namyangju City, began the new year of Eulsa in 2025 by paying respects at the Hyeonchungtap and Jeong Yak-yong's gravesite on the 2nd, followed by holding the 2025 opening ceremony at Dasan Hall in City Hall to start the new year's work.

This opening ceremony was held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Namyangju City and to reaffirm the responsibility as public officials and the commitment to practicing clean administration.
Before the ceremony, about 100 senior officials, including Mayor Joo Gwang-deok, attended the tribute at Hyeonchungtap to honor the spirit of sacrifice of the patriotic martyrs and national heroes.
They then visited the War Veterans Monument for the Korean War and the Marine Corps Victory Monument to pay respects and express gratitude through flower offerings and silent prayers.
Mayor Joo stated, “I once again express my respect and gratitude for the dedication of national merit recipients, and I will build a Namyangju City that works together with its citizens through clean and transparent administration.”
At the Jeong Yak-yong gravesite, the Director of Planning and Coordination Office read “Our Resolution” on behalf of the city officials, pledging to fulfill the responsibilities and roles of public servants.
The opening ceremony held at Dasan Hall began with the screening of a promotional video highlighting the integrity spirit of Jeong Yak-yong.
At the event, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Namyangju City's establishment, two employees?one with 30 years of service and another who turned 30 years old?read the Public Officials' Charter on behalf of all employees.
Mayor Joo said at the ceremony, “As a result of running together with citizens for Namyangju’s super growth, we have achieved remarkable accomplishments such as attracting a public medical center, opening the Byeollae Line, approval of the basic plan for the extension of Line 9 to Namyangju, and signing an agreement to build a future-oriented integrated IT center.” He added, “We will also promote the direct connection of the Gyeongchun Line and Suin-Bundang Line to create a true metropolitan transportation hub city.”
He continued, “Last year was filled with tragic events that made everyone suffer, but this year, I want to talk about hope rather than difficulties. Based on Namyangju’s potential and the aspirations of each citizen, we will raise the flag of change and innovation.”
Namyangju City plans to make integrity and fairness the top priorities of its administration in 2025, based on the spirit of Jeong Yak-yong, and to promote various policies that grow together with its citizens.
