Mayor Joyongik of Bucheon Announces 'Key Projects to Transform Bucheon' at New Year's Ceremony

Mayor Jo Yong-ik of Bucheon announced five core projects that will transform Bucheon on the 2nd.

At the 2025 New Year's ceremony, Mayor Jo emphasized enhancing Bucheon's competitiveness through five core projects, stating, "A shift in mindset and execution that turns crises into opportunities can create new changes."

First, Mayor Jo spoke about the development of the Bucheon Daejang Urban High-Tech Industrial Complex. He said, "We plan to develop this area into a high-tech industry and research and development (R&D) hub, making it a forward base for future new growth industries."

With agreements on the entry of leading domestic advanced manufacturing solution companies underway, he promised to attract more promising companies based on national logistics infrastructure and a new metropolitan railway network to boost economic vitality and urban competitiveness.

Second, referring to the commencement of the Metropolitan Area Express Railway (GTX)-B line and the Daejang-Hongdae line, he presented a blueprint, saying, "Just as new civilizations were born along the Silk Road where people and goods gathered, the best transportation network in the western metropolitan area?adjacent to two airports and equipped with nine railway lines?will act as a catalyst for the regional economy."

Third, he introduced plans for future-oriented and eco-friendly residential complexes, expressing his ambition: "Through the design of the 'Bucheon-style Garden' in Bucheon Daejang New Town, the preparation of a master plan for the redevelopment of the first-generation Jung-dong New Town, and improvements to the residential environment in the old downtown, we will create balanced residential spaces and high-quality living environments without bias toward either the new town or the old downtown."

Mayor Jo cited the expansion of nature-friendly barefoot trails as the fourth project, stating, "We will continuously expand the creation of 'walkable paths,' the top priority of citizen cultural and leisure projects, by adding barefoot trails to 49 locations including Eundemi Park this year."

Regarding 'Bucheon Luminarae,' scheduled to open in October, he said, "This project will transform forest trails within Bucheon Natural Ecology Park into a nighttime themed space, providing various attractions and entertainment for citizens and tourists alike," adding, "We will promote it as a paid service to contribute to tax revenue enhancement and regional economic revitalization."
