Paju City Announces Plan to Distribute 'Livelihood Recovery Living Stability Support Fund'

Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) will provide 100,000 KRW in living stabilization support funds to all Paju citizens to help restore their livelihoods.

On the 2nd, Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju held an emergency press conference regarding the payment of the living stabilization support funds for livelihood recovery, stating, "When the local economy is struggling due to special circumstances, expanded public sector financing is necessary." He announced the plan to provide the ‘Living Stabilization Support Fund for Livelihood Recovery’ to all Paju citizens, excluding foreigners, with 100,000 KRW each.
All residents registered in Paju City as of midnight on December 27 of last year are eligible for this support. However, foreigners residing in Paju are excluded from this program.
As of November 2024, the total population of Paju City is 528,644, of which 510,984 are Korean nationals excluding foreigners.
Paju City will invest approximately 52 billion KRW, including operating expenses for the support fund. In this regard, Paju City has allocated 52 billion KRW for the Living Stabilization Support Fund for Livelihood Recovery in the first supplementary budget and submitted it to the Paju City Council on the same day.
The ‘Living Stabilization Support Fund for Livelihood Recovery’ will be distributed from the 21st of this month until the 20th of next month. Paju citizens can apply through the city’s website or designated service counters to receive the funds.
The support funds will be provided through Paju Pay, the local currency of Gyeonggi Province, and will be charged the next day (on the card company’s business day) following the application date.
Mayor Kim Kyung-il explained, “The prolonged economic downturn, compounded by the emergency martial law shock at the end of last year causing political instability, has made life increasingly difficult not only for Paju citizens but for all South Korean people. What is even more disheartening is the forecast that this economic recession will worsen.”
Mayor Kim stated, “When the livelihood economy is struggling, the role of local governments is to circulate money within the community to support small business owners and revitalize the local economy. This decision by Paju City aims to help ease the burden on household finances, invigorate the livelihood economy, and lay the foundation for all citizens to enjoy a basic standard of living.”
Paju City completed consultations with the Paju City Council last year to facilitate the payment of this ‘Living Stabilization Support Fund for Livelihood Recovery.’
Mayor Kim emphasized, “We will swiftly and thoroughly implement the support fund so that all Paju citizens can receive it before and after the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday. This year as well, we will focus solely on the citizens and do our utmost to ensure their livelihood safety so that they can enjoy peaceful daily lives.”
