Na Kyung-won: "Yoon's Arrest Warrant, Simply a Trick... A Regression of Democracy"

"Parliamentary Democracy Collapsed Due to Multiple Tyrannies"
"Unconstitutional Proceedings Under the Guise of Public Opinion"
"Dishonest... Will Be Recorded in History"

Na Kyung-won, a member of the People Power Party, criticized the issuance of an arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol, calling it an act that disregards proper legal procedures.

On the 2nd, Na posted on her social media account, "As I started my first workday of the new year, I once again reflected on the spirit of the Constitution. I felt a deep sense of self-disgust as the 22nd National Assembly began," adding, "As a parliamentarian, it was unbearable to see parliamentary democracy collapse under the tyranny of the majority while I could only press 'oppose' on the terminal." She continued, "The destruction of the law is also occurring in other areas such as the impeachment process and the judiciary system. The principle of due process is one of the most important constitutional values," and said, "Due process became even more important to me in light of martial law. The completion of procedural democracy is proof of the maturity of democracy."

She went on, "Therefore, I cannot help but maintain a critical stance on the National Assembly’s presidential impeachment process, the appointment of Constitutional Court justices, and the impeachment of Acting Prime Minister Han Duck-soo. However, many procedures are being carried out in a highly unconstitutional manner under the guise of public opinion," and added, "Now even the investigation procedures are like this. Generally, serious cases are judged by the same court, but the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) ? which has disputes over investigative authority ? sought and obtained an arrest warrant from a judge in charge of warrants who is a member of the Uri Law Research Association." She asserted, "It was neither fair nor honest. In short, it was a trick. Moreover, the judge in charge of the warrant included a prohibited statement called 'exclusion of the application of legal provisions,'" and pointed out, "All these processes violating due process are a regression of democracy in the Republic of Korea. They will all be recorded in history."

Na also expressed concern about calls within her party for a swift investigation of presidential candidates, saying, "The call for a swift investigation should not shake the foundation of the rule of law under the pretext of speed. Does the demand for a swift investigation mean that due process can be ignored?" She concluded, "Public opinion is important, but true politics is about upholding the principles of due process and constitutional values rather than pandering to public opinion," emphasizing, "The destruction of procedures is the destruction of democracy. It must be corrected without fail."
