A Chinese national who assaulted a Korean couple in a group for pointing out indoor smoking has been handed over to the prosecution.

On the 2nd, the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul announced that Mr. A was sent to the prosecution in custody on charges of special assault. Mr. A is accused of collectively assaulting Mr. B, a Korean, and his girlfriend along with five others at a restaurant in Daerim-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, on Christmas Day, the 25th of last month.
When the couple, Mr. B and his girlfriend, requested, "Please go outside to smoke," Mr. A and his group reportedly assaulted them by hitting with beer bottles and stomping with their feet, saying, "Why should Koreans be so special that they can't even smoke?" Upon receiving a report, the police arrived and arrested Mr. A on the spot on charges of special assault.
The police have also apprehended the remaining five members of the group who fled the scene and have completed their investigation. It was confirmed that the group included both Chinese and Korean nationals.
A police official stated, "A warrant was issued for Mr. A, and he was sent to the prosecution in custody," adding, "We cannot confirm details regarding visa issuance or his residency status."
