Amid ongoing tributes from various sectors, including the cultural community, regarding the Jeju Air disaster at Jeonnam Muan International Airport, singer JK Kim Dong-wook raised his voice, saying, "It is not right to force sorrow." On December 31, JK Kim Dong-wook wrote on his social media (SNS), "No matter the reason, forcing sorrow is absolutely not right," adding, "Not posting a photo does not mean one is not sad, and not writing a single post does not mean one is not mourning."

He continued, "The new year has dawned, and shouldn't we all live another year sharing joy and sorrow with our loved ones, amidst big smiles and tears?" He urged, "Let’s make this year one where we can judge what is right and wrong with reason, and furthermore, make the world a better place." He added, "I am also writing songs with that mindset," and said, "Starting with myself, because it is me, I believe we can live with the thought of creating a better world."


JK Kim Dong-wook appears to have expressed these thoughts after receiving demands from some netizens to post a tribute message. Reactions to his post were mixed. Some netizens strongly opposed his opinion in the comments, saying that although it is a personal view, it is inappropriate. On the other hand, some netizens showed sympathy by liking JK Kim Dong-wook’s post and leaving supportive comments.


Earlier, on December 29, a Jeju Air passenger plane disaster occurred at Muan International Airport. In response, the government declared Jeonnam Muan a special disaster area and designated a seven-day national mourning period until January 4. Broadcasters also canceled or postponed year-end award ceremonies and major entertainment programs. Celebrities have been posting messages of mourning and condolences on their SNS accounts one after another.
