Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, has designated 2025 as the inaugural year to complete the 8th term of the elected administration under the theme “United Cheongsong, a Leap Beyond!” and announced the direction of county governance as “Cheongsong, the Best Place to Live and Work.”
Yoon Kyung-hee, Cheongsong County Governor, announcing the direction of military administration operations for the New Year 2025.
County Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, “In 2024, through the joint efforts of residents and administration, various achievements were made that brought changes to the lives of our citizens,” and added, “Building on these accomplishments, we will work even harder in 2025 to surely realize ‘Cheongsong, the Best Place to Live and Work.’” She then explained the five major strategic tasks by sector for 2025.
The first task is to create a sustainable farming environment that fosters prosperous Cheongsong agriculture.
Cheongsong-gun is leading innovation in apple farming to fundamentally address the increasingly severe abnormal weather and shortage of agricultural labor. By implementing “stemless apple distribution” and “defoliation-free apple production,” unnecessary cultivation processes are eliminated to reduce labor needs. Additionally, the “Flat Orchard Development Project,” which enables high-quality apple cultivation without laying reflective film, is being promoted among orchard farmers, expecting a dual effect of reducing agricultural costs and farming waste.
Furthermore, to reduce distribution costs, an online auction system will be introduced at the local wholesale market. This system will encourage more intermediate wholesalers to participate in apple auctions, increasing the volume handled by the market and establishing a distribution structure that satisfies both consumers and producers.
Moreover, agricultural support policies such as high-quality food crop production support, fruit production support, and activation of agricultural specialty product trading will be continuously pursued to enhance agricultural productivity and create a farming environment where farmers enjoy working.
Second, Cheongsong aims to implement reliable welfare that guarantees a happy old age and alleviates childcare burdens.
Cheongsong-gun is a super-aged society where those aged 60 and above account for over 40% of the total population, making the health of the elderly essential for a happy social structure. To build a happy society, pilot senior centers have been selected to implement “Senior Happy Meals at Senior Centers,” where seniors eat together three times a day, five days a week, and “Five-Day Lunch Support Senior Centers” to correct nutritional imbalances among the elderly.
Additionally, by improving medical equipment at the public health center, medical services equivalent to those of general hospitals are provided. Programs such as “Shingles Vaccination Support” and “Visiting Health Care” for residents aged 65 and older, as well as “Chronic Disease Prevention Projects,” are being promoted to create a community where seniors can live with peace of mind. Furthermore, through the operation of “All Together Care Centers” and the expansion of outdoor cultural and sports facilities at the Youth Training Center, various after-school educational programs are offered to reduce childcare burdens, making Cheongsong a great place to raise children.
Third, a virtuous cycle regional economy will be established.
To expand residents’ living radius and ensure accessible tourism in Cheongsong, the “Cheongsong Rural Free Bus Service” will be operated, providing more frequent opportunities to explore Cheongsong-gun. The issuance and circulation of 70 billion KRW worth of “Cheongsong Love Currency” will stimulate local consumption.
Additionally, the construction of the Cheongsong-eup Youth Village and Jinbo-myeon Public Rental Housing will encourage young people to reside locally, naturally boosting consumption activities and revitalizing the region. Projects such as “Creating Our Neighborhood’s Premium Food Street” to improve the Juwangsan shopping district and the “Local Character Preservation Project” to develop the Dalgi Mineral Spring in Cheongsong-eup aim to develop local specialty foods that will captivate visitors’ tastes.
Fourth, bustling cultural tourism policies will be promoted.
Cheongsong-gun, rich in pristine natural environments and cultural heritage, is accelerating the creation of Cheongsong-style tourist destinations utilizing its resources. The “Forest of Baekja” project, leveraging the 500-year history of Cheongsong Baekja (white porcelain), will unify the Cheongsong Baekja Pottery Village and Training Center to diversify tourism content. In the Pacheon-myeon area, the “Cheongsong Forest Leisure Sports Resort Complex” will be developed with a large-scale 27-hole golf course, a premium resort, and forest experience facilities, offering visitors relaxation and enjoyment while generating jobs and stimulating consumption.
Fifth, a livable urban environment will be created.
The stereotype that rural areas are inconvenient to live in and that community gathering spaces are poor does not apply in Cheongsong. Through projects such as the “Cheongsong-eup Rural Hub Revitalization Project,” “Deokri District Rural Space Improvement Project,” “Jinbo Jinan District Urban Regeneration New Deal Project,” “Cheongsong Geumgok District Urban Regeneration Recognition Project,” and “Jinbo, Andeok, and Hyeonseo-myeon Underground Power Line Project,” urban spaces are being improved to create a clean city environment for everyone.
Moreover, through the rural agreement securing 34.6 billion KRW in project funds in 2024, the “Jinbo-myeon Together Enjoy Complex Center” will be constructed as a multipurpose building with administrative, cultural, sports, and health functions. In addition, five other myeon, including Juwangsan-myeon, will expand desired living service functions to enhance residents’ quality of life.
Governor Yoon Kyung-hee expressed, “2025 marks the fourth year of the 8th elected term. Until now, we have sown the seeds for Cheongsong-gun’s leap forward, and from this year, the fruits of Cheongsong-gun’s development will begin to appear. Although the domestic situation remains turbulent and chaotic, we will do our best to create the best Cheongsong.” She conveyed her determination as the year of Eulsa (2025) begins.
