The Gwangju 119 Special Response Unit announced on the 2nd that Kim Jongryul has been appointed as the 9th chief of the unit.
Chief Kim began his duties without a separate inauguration ceremony, taking into account the grave circumstances such as the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster.
Born in Jangheung, Jeollanam-do, Chief Kim began his career in 1990 as a firefighter through the open recruitment process and has since held key positions including Head of the Safety and Health Team at the Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters, Head of the Fire Inspection Team, Director of the Prevention and Protection Division, and Chief of the Nambu Fire Station.
He is especially recognized for his outstanding work performance, contributing greatly to the development of Gwangju's fire services based on his extensive experience in all areas of fire administration.
Chief Kim expressed his commitment, stating, "As a specialized institution for special accident response, I will do my utmost to protect the lives and property of citizens in response to the ever-changing disaster environment."
