Location Decision and Announcement... 500t Daily Processing Capacity
Developed as a Complex Facility with Water Playground and Observation Tower
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will establish a large-scale resource recovery facility in Deokseong-ri, Idong-eup, Cheoin-gu by 2030.
Yongin City announced on the 1st that the Resource Recovery Facility Site Selection Committee, recently held, has finalized and officially announced the area around Deokseong-ri, Idong-eup, Cheoin-gu as the site.
Perspective view of the resource recovery facility "Yongin Green Eco Park," selected by Yongin City as the construction candidate site in Deokseong-ri, Idong-eup, Cheoin-gu. Starting from 2030, it will incinerate 500 tons of household waste per day. Provided by Yongin City
The resource recovery facility to be built this time aims to establish a sustainable waste management system in preparation for the ban on direct landfill of household waste starting in 2026, the 'Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex' located in Idong and Namsa areas, and the creation of the semiconductor-specialized new town 'Idong Public Housing District.'
The selected candidate site is 104,696㎡ around San 79, Deokseong-ri. The city plans to invest 385 billion KRW to build an incineration facility capable of processing 500 tons of household waste per day by 2030.
The city especially plans to develop Yongin Green Eco Park not just as a simple waste incineration facility but as a center for eco-friendly energy production. The thermal energy and electricity generated from waste incineration will be supplied to the system semiconductor industrial complex and Yongin 1st and 2nd Techno Valleys.
Along with this, Yongin Green Eco Park will include a complex cultural and sports facility equipped with a water playground, swimming pool, exhibition hall, observation tower, and ecological walking trails, with an investment of about 50 billion KRW. Infrastructure such as roads and water and sewage systems will also be installed.
The city plans to use this site selection as an opportunity to promote domestic and international advanced incineration facility tours for residents next year and hold meetings and briefings.
Currently, Yongin City operates two waste incineration facilities: the Yongin Environment Center in Geumeo-ri, Pogok-eup, Cheoin-gu, and the Suji Environment Center in Pungdeokcheon-dong, Suji-gu, processing 300 tons and 70 tons of waste per day respectively. However, due to capacity shortages, some household waste is outsourced for processing externally.
The city plans to establish the basic plan for the new resource recovery facility by the end of this year, complete the detailed design by the end of next year, obtain approval for the waste treatment facility installation plan in 2027, and begin construction.
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, said, "The swift decision on the resource recovery facility site without major regional conflicts will serve as a model case," adding, "We will do our best to develop Yongin Green Eco Park not just as a simple waste treatment facility but as a new landmark that will be a center for eco-friendly energy production and a driving force for regional development."
