"Report Child Abuse if No Change" Oh Eun-young's Warning Met with "Unfair" Claim from Geumjjok-i's Mother

Explanation on "Mother-in-law Conflict as the Cause" in Mom Cafe
"Appeared on Broadcast to Raise Children Better"

On December 27th, psychiatrist Dr. Oh Eun-young warned on a broadcast, "If things don't change, I will report it as child abuse," regarding a 20-year-old mother of Geumjjok-i, Ms. A, who has since expressed her feelings of injustice.

Earlier on the 27th, on the show 'These Days Parenting - My Golden Child,' Dr. Oh strongly told Ms. A, "If the mother doesn't change, I will report it." After netizens criticized Geumjjok-i's guardian upon watching the broadcast, Ms. A recently posted on an online community claiming to be the subject of the story titled 'My 4-year-old son who says he wishes his mother didn't exist.' Although she did not appear on the broadcast, she revealed that the cause was in-law conflicts.

Ms. A said, "When I moved into my mother-in-law's house, I was pregnant with my second child and moved all the boxes myself. They told me to reorganize the things I moved into the house, and my mother-in-law was holding my eldest child and giving orders beside me. My husband went out early every morning, saying he was studying. When I was pregnant with my first child, my mother-in-law said I shouldn't have a baby because I didn't graduate from college," adding, "I cleaned everything thoroughly and washed the bedding, but when my belongings went missing, she scolded me not to hide them. She criticized me for not tidying up. My mother-in-law even unfastened the baby stroller's safety belt herself, saying the baby wouldn't fall, but the child eventually fell and had to go to the emergency room. If it were you, would you say 'yes, yes' to your mother-in-law?"

Ms. A stated that she is currently taking medication, managing her anger, and doing well with parenting. She also said, "I have raised my child with more empathy than anyone since childhood, so please don't worry. I think I treated my child that way because even my own emotions were not considered important. I will try and show a changed self," adding, "The broadcast is just a broadcast. I'm not saying there was a script, but judging and criticizing based only on the four days of broadcast is unfair. I decided to appear to fix problematic behaviors and raise my child better, even though this is the best I can do. Only problematic behaviors were shown on the broadcast, but since everything had to be included within a set period, the context before and after was cut out. I ask for a positive perspective."

Previously, the broadcast featured a couple in their 20s raising children born in consecutive years. Ms. A was teaching 4-year-old Geumjjok-i to memorize Hangul letters because she received feedback that he was slower than his peers and felt he was falling behind. Ms. A instructed Geumjjok-i to write the letter 'ㄱ,' but he repeatedly got the stroke order wrong. After nearly 20 attempts without success, Ms. A became frustrated.

Ms. A tried to tidy Geumjjok-i's room, but he told her to leave. When Geumjjok-i said, "I like playing alone. I like making things alone," Ms. A responded, "I like things clean. Your feelings are not important to me." When Geumjjok-i threw toys at her, Ms. A shouted phrases like, "Get out. This is my house, get out," and "If you want to live like a fool, then get out."

Seeing this, Dr. Oh said, "This is gaslighting. If the mother doesn't realize this here, she shouldn't raise the child. If I find out the mother hasn't changed after leaving this place, I will report it," issuing a warning.
