[New Year's Address] Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, "Promoting Balanced Urban Development through Gwangjin-gu's 4 Major Pillars and 4 Specialized Zones"

Dear residents of Gwangjin-gu,

The new year of Eulsa (乙巳), the Year of the Blue Snake, has dawned. I hope the energy of the blue snake, a symbol of wisdom and abundance, fills Gwangjin-gu and all its residents.

In 2024, Gwangjin-gu made efforts to create a healthy and happy community by communicating with residents throughout the region under the consistent policy of "communication administration."

These efforts were recognized as exemplary administrative cases in various fields such as integrity, health, welfare, and safety. This was possible thanks to the valuable guidance from all residents for the development of Gwangjin-gu. I sincerely thank you for your warm interest and support over the past year.

The year 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Gwangjin-gu and the first year of "Gwangjin-gu Re-creation." Based on the solid development foundation laid over the past two years, we will strive even harder to make visible changes that residents can feel.

First, we will promote balanced urban development through the specialized development of Gwangjin-gu’s four major axes and four major zones, and expand the insufficient living infrastructure.

We will prepare a systematic comprehensive housing plan to ensure residents’ housing stability and achieve pleasant changes in aging low-rise residential areas through various housing maintenance projects.

We will create a warm Gwangjin-gu without any neighbors left behind by establishing a detailed welfare system that covers all generations from children to youth and the elderly.

Additionally, we will steadily promote the operation of a one-stop support center to help stabilize the management of local small business owners and carry out management and facility modernization projects to revitalize traditional markets. We will also support strengthening employment capabilities through expanding public jobs for residents’ livelihood stability and providing various education and job counseling.

We will prepare customized programs by generation so that every resident can enjoy diverse cultural and artistic activities, sports, and educational opportunities in daily life, and work harder to maintain a safe and pleasant urban environment in every area of Gwangjin-gu.

Above all, we will communicate more with residents to quickly improve inconveniences and deficiencies in daily life. Together with the staff of Gwangjin-gu, we will always work uprightly and diligently with the goal of “Happy Gwangjin that develops through communication.”

In the new year of 2025, I hope you will continue to guide us and stay with Gwangjin-gu with even more interest and affection.

I wish you a healthy and happy year in which all your hopes come true. Happy New Year!

January 2025

Kim Kyung Ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu
