Gyeonggi Province will provide emergency support of 50,000 KRW for one month’s heating costs in January to 300,000 households of basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups.
On the 1st, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will pay 50,000 KRW for heating costs by the end of January to a total of 308,601 households, including 253,160 general basic livelihood security recipient households and 55,441 near-poverty households.
Currently, 347,859 households of basic livelihood security recipients reside in Gyeonggi Province. Excluding 94,699 elderly and disabled households that are already receiving heating cost support, 253,160 households are eligible for this additional support.
The 94,699 elderly and disabled households receive up to 716,000 KRW per month through the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s energy voucher program. In addition, Gyeonggi Province and local governments jointly provide 50,000 KRW monthly for heating costs from November to March.
The 55,441 near-poverty households include single-mother, grandparent-grandchild, single-father, youth single-parent families, and disabled persons, and this is the first time heating cost support is being provided to them. The heating cost payments will be deposited in individual household accounts in cash by the end of January.
This emergency heating cost support was realized after Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province promptly accepted the proposal made at the emergency livelihood stabilization meeting between the province and local governments held on the 17th.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon stated, "The vulnerable groups suffering from high prices and economic recession during the year-end and New Year period are facing an even greater crisis due to the aftermath of martial law and impeachment," and added, "I hope this emergency heating cost support will serve as a catalyst to protect the daily lives of residents and revive the frozen livelihood economy."
