Jeju Air Disaster Seoul City Memorial Service Operation Begins
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon visited the incense altar set up in front of the main entrance of Seoul City Hall to pay tribute to the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident. He also prayed for the safe return of the missing persons from the capsized ship accident in the West Sea.

On the morning of the 31st at 8 a.m., Mayor Oh visited the incense altar with city officials, offering flowers and observing a moment of silence to honor the victims. Mayor Oh said, "We have set up the incense altar so that we can express our condolences. I hope many citizens will join together in spirit to pray for the repose of the deceased and convey deep condolences to the bereaved families."
The city will operate the incense altar for five days until January 4th of next year to allow citizens to pay their respects to the victims. The operating hours are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Mayor Oh also wrote on Facebook that day, "I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families whose grief cannot be fully expressed in words," adding, "As a public official responsible for the lives and safety of the people, I feel a heavy sense of responsibility."
He continued, "Moreover, hearing the news of the capsized ship accident in the West Sea makes my heart ache deeply," and added, "I earnestly pray for the safe return of those missing in the ship accident."
Meanwhile, Seoul City will mourn the Jeju Air passenger plane tragedy by scaling down year-end and New Year events such as the ringing of the Bosingak bell. The New Year's Eve bell-ringing event scheduled from 11 p.m. that night to 1 a.m. on January 1st in the Bosingak area of Jongno-gu, Seoul, will cancel performances and performances, focusing on a solemn bell-ringing ceremony.
