Goheung County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Youngmin) announced on the 31st that it has developed and exported to the Chinese market a Korea-China joint beverage called ‘Hainyu’, made using Goheung yuzu and Chinese sea cucumber extract.

This beverage was developed to increase the utilization and added value of Goheung’s signature specialty, yuzu, and uses premium Goheung yuzu and Chinese sea cucumber extract as its main ingredients.

The development of the ‘Hainyu’ beverage began in September this year when Governor Gong Youngmin, during his activities with the Goheung agricultural and marine product export team, proposed the idea of creating a new beverage by combining Goheung yuzu with a new Chinese product. In collaboration with the Jeonnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services, they succeeded in developing the recipe, and on the 27th, completed the production and export of the initial batch of 300,000 bottles to China.

This Korea-China joint beverage project is the result of cooperation among various organizations and companies from both countries, including Goheung County, Jeonnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services, China’s Shandong Bulkong Group, China Marine Food Nutrition Innovation Research Institute, and Enzyme Pharm. It is especially notable as an exceptional case.

Kang Bin, Chairman of Shandong Bulkong Group, the Chinese partner, visited Goheung County Office on the 30th to deliver the prototype, stating, “Thanks to the interest and support from Goheung County, the beverage launch was made possible,” and added, “We will widely promote the excellence of Goheung yuzu in the Chinese market through various distribution channels.”

Governor Gong Youngmin said, “The combination of yuzu, rich in vitamin C, and sea cucumber, known as the ginseng of the sea, is a unique attempt,” and added, “We will develop a variety of new products that go beyond traditional yuzu tea while maintaining the quality of yuzu, and advance into the global market.”

Goheung County and China’s Shandong Bulkong Group plan to accelerate efforts to promote the competitiveness of Goheung yuzu worldwide, aiming for annual sales of one million bottles, using this beverage development and export to China as a stepping stone.
