A Taekwondo Olympic medalist was reported to the police for assaulting a former national tennis player, but it was revealed to be a simple misunderstanding.

Earlier, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced on the 29th that they were conducting a preliminary investigation into Taekwondo national team member A on suspicion of assault. A was accused of assaulting former tennis national team member B on a street in Gangnam-gu around 11 p.m. on the 29th. According to the police, the two had been drinking together and got into an argument that escalated to assault. B was taken to the hospital but was discharged voluntarily without any serious injuries.

However, it turned out to be a simple misunderstanding. According to a Yonhap News report, A explained, "After having a year-end drinking party together, I was waiting for a designated driver to take B home," and "During this process, we got tangled and fell, but a bystander who witnessed it seems to have mistaken it for an assault and reported it." The police secured nearby CCTV footage and conducted an investigation, and since both A and B submitted statements requesting no punishment, the preliminary investigation is expected to be closed.

Meanwhile, A is active as a commentator after finishing his career as a Taekwondo athlete, and B is training the next generation. It was confirmed that the two had appeared together on a variety show.
