Kwon Young-se "Yoon's Arrest Warrant Issuance, Deeply Regrettable... Opposes Constitutional Court Justice Appointment"

"Opposing the Dual Special Investigation Act... Not a Treason Special Investigation but a Martial Law Special Investigation"
"Discussion on the Dual Special Investigation Act Possible if Unconstitutionality is Removed"

Kwon Young-se, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, commented on the issuance of an arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol, saying, "I think it is very regrettable that an arrest warrant was issued during a mourning period, especially when the sitting president poses no risk of evidence destruction or flight."

On the 31st, Chairman Kwon told reporters at the National Assembly, "It is also a serious problem that the warrant was requested not at the Seoul Central District Court, which handles cases for the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency, but at the Seoul Western District Court, where opposition party-recommended Constitutional Court justice candidates are present."

Regarding some media reports that Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok said the appointment of Constitutional Court justices is necessary, he said, "Our party's position remains unchanged. Especially since Acting Prime Minister Choi's status is actually fluid," adding, "We have filed a constitutional dispute trial regarding whether the voting procedure on the impeachment motion against Prime Minister Han Duck-soo at the Constitutional Court was appropriate."

He continued, "In this situation, we oppose the appointment of Constitutional Court justices," and said, "Our position on the double special prosecutor law remains the same. Since there are many elements that violate the constitution and the more difficult and complex the issue, the more we must adhere to principles, I believe the two special prosecutors should request reconsideration."

Regarding Park Hyung-soo, the senior deputy floor leader of the People Power Party, who said that negotiations could be possible if the unconstitutional elements of the special prosecutor laws on the insurrection and Kim Geon-hee were removed, Kwon explained, "We currently oppose the special prosecutors, but special prosecutors with unconstitutional elements removed can be discussed." He added, "Personally, I do not agree with calling it an insurrection special prosecutor," emphasizing, "I think it is problematic to define it as an insurrection, so I would call it a martial law special prosecutor."

On Chairman Kwon’s mention of conservative groups holding rallies in Gwanghwamun during his inauguration speech the previous day, he explained, "I have said several times that although they support the right-wing, their positions differ somewhat from the party’s, and for the sake of the Republic of Korea, I hope we can unite and work together." Earlier, Chairman Kwon said, "Last weekend, seeing the people filling the streets of Gwanghwamun was truly heartbreaking," and added, "I will not forget the hearts of our people who came out in this cold weather."
