Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) will officially implement the hometown love donation system's designated donation fundraising starting next year.
This fundraising will serve as an important opportunity to promote regional development through the voluntary donations of Seongbuk-gu residents and to realize projects for a sustainable environment.
The designated donation under the hometown love donation system allows donors to choose projects they wish to support from those pre-selected by local governments. Seongbuk-gu selected two designated donation projects last year through a resident proposal contest: "Support for Automatic Tumbler Washers at Individual Cafes for a Greener Seongbuk" and "Planting Seongbuk-gu’s Gu-mok (Persimmon Trees) and Gu-hwa (Azaleas)."
The "Support for Automatic Tumbler Washers at Individual Cafes for a Greener Seongbuk" project aims to reduce the use of disposable products and spread a sustainable consumption culture. It supports the rental of automatic tumbler washers in local cafes to help residents conveniently wash and reuse their tumblers. This is expected to significantly reduce the use of disposable plastics and have a tangible environmental protection effect.
The "Planting Seongbuk-gu’s Gu-mok and Gu-hwa" project is promoted to foster residents’ hometown pride and expand green spaces to provide a pleasant environment for residents. In particular, name tags of donors will be attached to the planted Gu-mok and Gu-hwa trees in the future to instill pride and satisfaction among donors.
The fundraising target for each designated donation project is 20 million KRW. Through these two projects, Seongbuk-gu plans to encourage the spread of a donation culture along with raising awareness of environmental protection in the local community.
Donations can be made by selecting a project through the hometown love e-eum website, bank apps, and the "Donate to a Specific Project (Designated Donation)" option on private platforms. Starting next year, individuals can donate up to 20 million KRW, and donors will receive year-end tax deductions and thank-you gifts worth up to 30% of the donation amount.
Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, “I am confident that this designated donation fundraising for hometown love will bring positive changes to the community through climate change response projects,” and added, “We will continue to discover designated donation projects that are essential to the region and resonate with donors, so we ask for your great interest.”
