Selected No.1 by Residents for 'Anyone Sports Center Operation' Crossing Generations and Disability Boundaries
No.2 Silppuri Welfare, No.3 Filial Administration Prove High Satisfaction with Mapo-gu Welfare Policies
Among the many valuable policies implemented by Mapo-gu during the Year of the Blue Dragon, Gapjin Year 2024, the policy most loved by residents was found to be the ‘Operation of the NuguNae Sports Center.’
Seoul Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) conducted an online vote for residents from December 13 to 19 to select the ‘Top 10 Policies of Mapo-gu in the 8th Term of Local Government in 2024.’
The vote allowed each participant to select up to three policies from 20 key pledges and current projects prioritized by the district, with a total of 4,184 people participating and casting 12,552 votes.
As a result, the ‘Operation of the NuguNae Sports Center’ received 1,326 votes, making it the most beloved policy among residents.
The ‘NuguNae Sports Center’ was established in April 2024 as a space where anyone, regardless of generation or disability, can exercise.
It operates integrated spaces for people with disabilities, the elderly, general adults, and children, receiving high praise from residents.
In addition to this, Mapo-gu gained attention through various welfare and cultural projects. Alongside the ‘NuguNae Sports Center,’ efforts to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities through the ‘NuguNae Cultural Creation Center’ and ‘NuguNae Companion House’ led to recognition as an excellent institution in the ‘2024 Disability Welfare Project Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and receiving the Speaker of the National Assembly Award at the ‘2024 Korean Disability Human Rights Award’ hosted by the Korea Federation of Organizations of the Disabled, setting a model for welfare administration.
The policy ranked second was the ‘Opening of Silppuri Welfare Center and Launch of Silppuri Welfare Companion Group.’ It provided welfare services closely connected to the lives of all residents, including children, adults, and socially vulnerable groups, gaining strong support.
The third place was awarded to the ‘Filial Piety Administration Projects,’ which include the operation of ‘Filial Piety Meals’ and ‘Side Dish Factory,’ ‘Filial Piety Boarding Senior Centers,’ ‘Filial Piety Schools,’ and ‘Hyochang-gu,’ demonstrating residents’ high satisfaction with Mapo-gu’s specialized welfare policies.
Other policies that contributed to residents’ lives and gained attention ranged from the 4th place ‘Mapo Circular Train Bus’ to the 10th place ‘Dohwa-dong Flower Road Creation Project.’
In particular, efforts to create an attractive city stood out, including local economic revitalization projects such as the Boom Festival (9th place) to activate Mapo’s alleyway commercial districts, and the expansion of Red Road infrastructure (8th place).
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “We confirmed that various policies based on the district administration philosophy of communication, companionship, coexistence, charm, and safety have taken root in the daily lives of residents,” adding, “We will continue to carry out more substantial administration based on policies loved and supported by residents.”
