Psychological Counseling Support by Base Location
The Ministry of Health and Welfare held a meeting of the Integrated Psychological Support Team to respond to the Jeju Air disaster and announced that it will make every effort to provide psychological support to the bereaved families.
At the meeting held on the 30th at the Jeonnam Provincial Office, about 30 people including officials from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Jeollanam-do, Gwangju Metropolitan City, the National Trauma Center, regional trauma centers, and Jeju Air discussed measures to support the psychological well-being of the bereaved families.
The Integrated Psychological Support Team provides on-site support by base location. At the Muan International Airport waiting area, the National and regional trauma centers operate psychological counseling spaces and deploy the Mind Relief Bus to offer psychological support services. Metropolitan and basic mental health welfare centers provide psychological support services at temporary accommodations and memorial altars for the bereaved families.
On-site, 320 personnel including mental health specialists who have completed disaster psychological education are deployed. In addition, mental health specialists from the National and regional trauma centers provide necessary integrated medical and psychological support in the bereaved families' space within the airport together with the Red Cross relief team.
The National and regional trauma centers and mental health welfare centers plan to continue offering face-to-face and non-face-to-face psychological counseling to the bereaved families even after on-site psychological support concludes.
