Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced on the 30th that all New Year's events planned for the end of the year and the beginning of the year have been canceled due to the Jeju Air passenger plane accident that occurred in Muan, Jeollanam-do.

The district held an emergency executive meeting chaired by Seo Gang-seok, Songpa-gu Mayor, at 9 a.m. on the 30th and made this decision.

Originally, the district planned to hold the "2025 New Year's Countdown" at Seokchon Lake on December 31, followed by the "2025 New Year's Festival" at Mongchontoseong in Olympic Park on January 1.

With the cancellation of the events, the district plans to post memorial messages for the victims on its website and social media to encourage a time of mourning and will focus all efforts on resident safety during the year-end and New Year period.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, "We pray for the repose of the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident and extend our deepest condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families," adding, "As many citizens are experiencing great shock and sorrow due to this accident, we ask residents to actively participate in the national mourning period."

The national mourning period is from December 29 of last year to January 4 of next year.
