Buan County Cancels Year-End Event Due to Muan Airport Tragedy

Early Hoisting During National Mourning Period

Buan County in North Jeolla Province announced on the 30th that it has decided to cancel year-end events, including the sunset festival, in solidarity with the national mourning following the Muan Airport tragedy.


The county plans to fly flags at half-mast at the county office and either cancel or significantly downsize various events scheduled during the national mourning period.


The 2024 Byeonsan Sunset Festival, which was scheduled for the 31st, has also been canceled. On the same day, the county expressed condolences for the victims of the Muan Airport tragedy and announced the cancellation of the sunset festival through its official social media channels.

Additionally, the groundbreaking ceremony for the large-scale Gyeokpo tourism development project, held on the same day, was conducted in a simplified manner, and the 2024 year-end ceremony scheduled for the 31st will also be scaled down.


Furthermore, it was announced that private organizations in the eight towns and townships are either canceling or considering canceling the New Year's sunrise events that were scheduled for January 1st next year.


County Governor Kwon Ikhyeon said, "We express our condolences to those who were tragically lost in the Muan Airport tragedy and extend our heartfelt sympathy to their families and loved ones. In order to join the nation in mourning and to pray for the repose of the victims, the county has canceled or postponed various festivals and events."
