Choi Hong-yeon, director of Seoul Grand Park (age 55), has been promoted to grade 2 and appointed as the deputy mayor of Songpa-gu.

Choi, who passed the 34th Administrative Examination while a senior in the Department of Public Administration at Korea University, began his public service career in 1991 at Seoul City. It is known that he briefly received trainee administrative officer training in Songpa-gu in 1992.

Deputy Mayor Choi is regarded as a 'welfare expert,' having served as head of the Elderly Welfare Division, Welfare Policy Division, and Welfare Planning Office at Seoul City after working in Seongbuk-gu.

He also gained diverse experience by serving as the Design Planning Officer, Head of School Support Division, and Director of the Cultural Facilities Promotion Team.

In particular, he was recognized as a warm, motherly deputy mayor by Dongdaemun-gu office employees during his longest tenure of five and a half years after being appointed deputy mayor of Dongdaemun-gu in 2018.

Afterward, he took office as director of Seoul Grand Park in 2024, gaining unique experience, and then returned to his home autonomous district, being promoted to grade 2.

Although he had no opportunity for promotion to grade 2 while serving a long time as deputy mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, he was belatedly promoted by moving to the grade 2 position of deputy mayor of Songpa-gu this time.

Among the current senior officials of Seoul City, Deputy Mayor Choi, who passed the administrative exam earliest (34th), shows a joyful expression upon his promotion to grade 2.

His fellow 34th Administrative Examination alumni include Choi Ho-kwon, mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, who is highly trusted by Yeongdeungpo residents; Baek Ho, president of Seoul Metro; and Kim Young-sung, former deputy mayor of Geumcheon-gu.

Deputy Mayor Choi Hong-yeon said, “I will work hard with Mayor Seo Gang-seok, who serves the residents as the owners by communicating and considering the staff, to build a prestigious city of Songpa.”

Deputy Mayor Choi is a smart senior official with extensive experience not only in Seoul City but also in autonomous districts such as Seongbuk-gu and Dongdaemun-gu, enabling him to perform duties immediately without difficulties.

He is a rare senior official who combines both character and competence.

Seo Gang-seok, mayor of Songpa-gu and a senior in the Seoul City administrative exam, warmly welcomes Deputy Mayor Choi Hong-yeon.

Songpa-gu is known to be greatly relieved by the appointment of Deputy Mayor Choi Hong-yeon, who has a good character, following former Deputy Mayor Lee Hye-kyung, who was promoted to director of the Seoul City Finance Bureau in this personnel reshuffle.
