Top Policy of Gwangjin-gu's 8th Elected Administration Chosen by Residents?... Garbage Collection 6 Days a Week

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) announced the top 10 outstanding projects of Gwangjin-gu as it enters the third year of the 8th local government administration.

Among the 20 key projects promoted over the 2 years and 6 months of the 8th local government administration, projects considered most helpful for regional development and happiness enhancement were selected. The survey was conducted from November 20 for 20 days, targeting about 1,000 residents through face-to-face questionnaires.

The first place was taken by the ‘6-day-a-week household waste collection system.’ Previously, waste was collected only 3 days a week, and collection days varied by neighborhood, causing inconvenience. Accordingly, a budget of about 50 billion KRW will be invested by 2026 to expand waste collection to 6 days a week. Residents’ inconvenience and hassle have decreased, while convenience and satisfaction have increased. This highly tangible living policy, which brought about practical changes through communication with residents, received high marks. It was also selected as the best case of proactive administration by Seoul City.

The second place went to the ‘Expansion of Achasan leisure facilities.’ The creation of Achasan Harmony Garden, Barefoot Clay Road, Achasan Forest Library, and Leisure Center provided an environment where people can enjoy leisure with nature in the city, earning positive evaluations.

The third place was the ‘2040 Gwangjin Re-Creation Plan.’ The 8th local government administration of Gwangjin-gu was sincere about urban development. It achieved remarkable results such as expanding commercial areas by 55,000 square meters and increasing redevelopment-possible areas by 90 times. In November, the ‘2040 Gwangjin Re-Creation Plan,’ the blueprint for Gwangjin-gu’s urban development, was completed. The urban development axis was expanded and reorganized into four major zones and four major axes, seeking customized development plans for each zone. This reflected the residents’ heartfelt wishes for urban development.

‘Street vendor regulation,’ achieved through continuous communication, ranked fourth. By meeting and persuading street vendors dozens of times, 92 street stalls were regulated, accounting for one-third of Gwangjin-gu’s street vendors. The quiet removal without physical conflict also contributed.

The fifth place was ‘Expansion of parking lots.’ One of the biggest complaints in the district is parking issues. Since the 8th local government administration, the district has expanded insufficient parking facilities, including 81 spaces at Guui 2-dong Complex Building, 94 spaces at Baenamuteo Park, 118 spaces at the temporary parking lot on the pediatric and adolescent site, and 180 spaces at the temporary parking lot near the Hwayang Substation, leading efforts to resolve residents’ inconveniences.

Other projects following included the ‘Dong Area Responsibility System,’ ‘Improvement of traffic systems such as U-turn lanes,’ and ‘Revitalization of traditional markets and local commercial districts.’ Generally, projects that help residents’ daily lives ranked high.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Many residents empathized with and gave high marks for resolving their inconveniences through continuous communication,” adding, “We will continue to prioritize residents’ happiness and communicate and learn more. We ask residents to show great interest and affection for district administration.”
