Daegyeong Gyeongjacheong, Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District Innovation Ecosystem Council Draws Attention... 16 Institutions from Industry, Academia, Research, and Government Participate

The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Kim Byung-sam) held the ‘Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District Innovation Ecosystem Council’ on the 27th at Hosan University in Gyeongsan City, with over 30 participants from 16 industry-academia-research-government organizations.


This council was organized to serve as a catalyst for solving difficulties faced by resident companies through collaboration among the innovation ecosystem bodies of the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District, and ultimately to drive regional economic growth.

The event proceeded with the awarding of certificates to the best team of the Win-Win Supporters, performance presentations, a report on the progress of the Win-Win Supporters project, updates on the development status of the Gyeongsan district, presentations on the status of innovation ecosystem activation support projects, and a free discussion on ways to revitalize the innovation ecosystem by participating organizations.


The Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District Innovation Ecosystem Council, launched in 2019 as the first innovation ecosystem council among nine national free economic zones, is operated by 16 organizations including the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, Gyeongsan City, seven research institutes, three universities, the Gyeongsan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District CEO Association, and Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry Development Co., Ltd.


So far, the council has strengthened the industry-academia-research-government network and promoted various support projects tailored to corporate needs, such as customized technical talent training and supply, and youth employment support, through practical meetings linking research institutes↔companies↔universities↔high schools.


In particular, the ‘Win-Win Supporters project,’ planned through the industry-academia cooperation network, involved six teams composed of local students who produced a total of 192 promotional contents, including six excellent company promotional videos, six Free Economic Zone Authority promotional videos, and 180 SNS and blog contents.


The supporters effectively promoted the images of local excellent companies, research institutes, and universities through content created directly by students, which became an opportunity to further strengthen the excellent infrastructure of the Gyeongsan district, where industry-academia-research cooperation is facilitated.


Additionally, to improve the living conditions of companies residing in the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District, multiple meetings with related organizations and on-site company consultation offices have been operated to listen to and resolve inconveniences. An online user-centered corporate support platform has also been established and operated, providing various information such as district status, recruitment, public project announcements, and newsletters, serving as a communication channel among cooperating organizations.


Next year, to create cultural and leisure spaces, efforts will be accelerated to attract a large outlet within the district and to carry out preliminary budget procedures such as central investment reviews for the creation of an ecological park in Sowolji in cooperation with Gyeongsan City.


Kim Byung-sam, Commissioner of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority, stated, “With the excellent infrastructure of the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District, the Innovation Ecosystem Council has established itself as a leading model of an organic network among industry, academia, research, and government.” He added, “Let us all work together so that the Gyeongsan district can stand tall as a global business hub in the upcoming new airport era.”
