Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijung and staff from the city hall cafeteria closed the cafeteria on the 27th and had lunch together at a nearby restaurant. Mayor Kang did this to encourage employees from departments with heavy workloads and to support the recovery of the local economy by using nearby restaurants.
On this day, the city operated a "Use Nearby Restaurants Day" for all employees. This initiative was organized to help revive the local economy, which has been stagnant due to the state of emergency and the political turmoil surrounding the impeachment situation.
During lunch with the cafeteria staff, Mayor Kang expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thanks to the staff who quietly work hard to provide quality meals to hundreds of employees every day, we are able to enjoy warm and delicious food."
Deputy Mayor for Administration Ko Gwangwan, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Economy Lee Sanggap, Planning and Coordination Office Director Lee Byeongcheol, and other senior officials also encouraged employees from departments with heavy workloads, such as the 120 Call Center, sanitation workers, and security guards, and participated in "Use Nearby Restaurants Day."
Previously, on the 24th, the city also closed the cafeteria during lunchtime and held "Use Nearby Restaurants Day" to share in the difficulties faced by small business owners and the self-employed. In addition, the city is working to revitalize the local economy through a relay consumption promotion campaign and by increasing the discount rate on the Win-Win Card throughout January.
Mayor Kang said, "I am grateful to the employees who have quietly done their best despite the recent political turmoil," and added, "We organized 'Use Nearby Restaurants Day' to provide even a small amount of help to struggling small business owners. In the new year, Gwangju City will focus its administrative efforts on realizing a warmer and more vibrant local economy."
