Gapyeong-gun Completes Daegok-ri Roundabout and Urban Planning Road

Expectations for Establishing Urban Development Foundations and Improving Residents' Quality of Life

Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Seo Tae-won) announced on the 27th that a roundabout has been installed around the CC Discount Mart area in Daegok-ri, Gapyeong-eup, and an urban planning road connecting Stay83 to CC Discount Mart has been completed. The roundabout installation and the road construction project, with a width of 15m and a length of 210m, involved an investment of 1.11 billion KRW from the county budget.

The county expects that this road construction will greatly contribute to improving the traffic environment in the area and laying the foundation for urban development.

The area around CC Discount Mart was previously a high-risk zone for accidents due to vehicles driving in the wrong direction at three existing entrance and exit intersections. In particular, with the connection of the new urban planning road, an irregular four-entrance intersection was formed, making crossing the intersection difficult and increasing concerns about traffic accidents. Accordingly, Gapyeong-gun focused on reducing the possibility of traffic accidents and facilitating vehicle flow by installing the roundabout.

Additionally, pedestrians trying to enter the downtown area from CC Discount Mart faced inconvenience as there was no dedicated pedestrian road, forcing them to share the roadway with vehicles. With the completion of this roundabout, pedestrian safety issues are expected to be significantly alleviated.

Especially, the project area is suitable for housing and neighborhood living facilities and is adjacent to the existing downtown area, making urban expansion possible. A county official explained, “This road network improvement is expected not only to enhance residents’ convenience but also to serve as an opportunity for urban expansion and economic revitalization.”

Im Jin-seop, Director of the Urban Division, said, “The roundabout and urban planning road construction project are receiving positive responses from residents,” adding, “We will continue to expand road and traffic infrastructure to promote regional development and improve residents’ quality of life.”
