Temporary Cabinet Members Meeting Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Economy
Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Economy and Finance, appealed to the National Assembly on the 27th, saying, "The impeachment motion against Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, Acting President, must not shake the barely stabilized economic system and external credibility again."
Deputy Prime Minister Choi presided over an emergency meeting of cabinet members held at the Government Seoul Office and stated, "The absence of a national control tower will cause serious damage to our economy's external credibility, security, national economy, and continuity of state affairs."
The National Assembly will vote on the impeachment motion against Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, Acting President, in a plenary session on the same day.
Deputy Prime Minister Choi expressed concern, saying, "Our economy and people's livelihoods, which are walking on thin ice in a national emergency situation, cannot bear the political uncertainty of an acting president of an acting president."
He added, "The barely stabilized economic system and external credibility under the acting president system must not be shaken again," and said, "In this national emergency of a global trade war, the absence of a national control tower will cause serious damage to our economy's external credibility, security, national economy, and continuity of state affairs, as seen in the sharp rise of the won-dollar exchange rate."
Deputy Prime Minister Choi said, "The impeachment motion against the acting president is no different from an impeachment motion against the entire cabinet," and warned, "If the impeachment motion is passed, the executive branch's capabilities will be weakened due to continuous impeachment threats, and ultimately, the existence of cabinet members will be nullified."
