Mohamed Salah (32), a forward for Liverpool FC in the English Premier League (EPL), posted a photo celebrating Christmas and received criticism from some netizens.

On the 25th (local time), British media including the Daily Mail reported, "Liverpool and Egypt forward Salah is facing fierce criticism from Muslims." On this day, Salah posted a photo on his social media account with his family in front of a Christmas tree to celebrate Christmas. Along with the photo, he included the hashtag #MerryChristmas. In the photo, Salah, his wife, and two daughters wore matching red checkered pajamas, fully enjoying the Christmas atmosphere.

However, some Muslim fans criticized this. They said it was inappropriate for Salah, a Muslim, to celebrate Christmas. They responded to Salah with comments such as "Delete this post immediately," "You should stop being a Liverpool fan," and "You are no longer my role model." Last year, Salah also posted a message celebrating Christmas. At that time, some Muslim fans said, "Because of you, I will no longer support Liverpool," and "I am really disappointed." However, other fans left comments defending Salah, saying, "There is no reason to criticize him for this," and "Don't pay attention to it."

Regarding this, the Daily Mail explained, "The Quran, the holy book of Islam, describes Jesus only as a prophet who came before Muhammad and regards Muhammad as the only perfect prophet." It added, "Muslims traditionally do not celebrate Christmas, but some Muslims do participate in Christmas festivities."

Meanwhile, Salah holds Egyptian nationality and plays as a winger. He currently serves as the captain of the Egypt national football team. He transferred from AS Roma to Liverpool FC in 2017 and has been active with achievements including winning the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League (UCL), earning the league top scorer title three times and the assist leader title once. Last month, he received his sixth Player of the Month award overall.
