Damyang County in Jeollanam-do has achieved remarkable success by winning the Grand Prize and the Excellence Award in the "2024 Comprehensive Forest Administration Evaluation" and the "Carbon Neutral Tree Planting Evaluation," respectively, both organized by Jeollanam-do Province.
The Comprehensive Forest Administration Evaluation assessed 22 cities and counties in the province across 17 indicators in three areas: ▲forest resource development ▲urban forest creation ▲wildfire prevention performance ▲forest pest control ▲landslide prevention and response. Damyang County was selected as an excellent institution for the sixth consecutive year, reaffirming its status as a leading authority in forest administration.
In particular, Damyang County contributed to zero casualties and property damage by strengthening safety measures against spring wildfires and landslide-prone areas. The county also received the Grand Prize for its outstanding evaluation in expanding urban forest areas and creating premium street greenways, thereby developing green living spaces within the city.
In the Carbon Neutral Tree Planting Evaluation, which earned the Excellence Award, the county planted more than 1.2 million trees, making a significant contribution to carbon neutrality. Damyang County was highly praised for creating everyday forests in collaboration with residents and organizations, and was selected as an excellent institution for the third consecutive year.
On the 26th, County Governor Lee Byeongno stated, "Being selected as an excellent institution for six consecutive years is the result of the joint efforts of Damyang County and local residents in cultivating and creating forests," adding, "We will continue to do our best to respond to climate change and expand green spaces."
