Regional Revitalization Investment Fund No. 5 Project Approved... 152,000㎡ Scale Set for Next January
The nation's largest single-scale smart farm complex, to be established in the Bio Well-being Research Zone in Seosan, Chungnam, will officially begin construction in January next year.
The city announced on the 26th that Phase 1 of the Chungnam Global Horti Complex project has been selected as the 5th project for the Regional Revitalization Investment Fund by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The Regional Revitalization Investment Fund is a resource that allows local governments to pursue large-scale projects by linking government and private capital, with exemptions or simplifications for preliminary feasibility studies and fiscal investment reviews.
Phase 1 of the project will create a smart farm complex on a 152,000-square-meter site with a total project cost of 130 billion KRW. The smart farm corporation Udeumji Farm will participate as the developer, and groundbreaking is scheduled for January next year.
With this groundbreaking, six smart farm buildings and one management building will be constructed, with completion expected in the second half of 2025. The complex will then begin full-scale operations cultivating cherry tomatoes and fully ripened tomatoes.
Mayor Lee Wan-seop stated, "Seosan has now laid the foundation to become the nation's largest smart farm city," adding, "We will continue to focus administrative efforts on the development of smart farming and agriculture."
Meanwhile, the Chungnam Global Horti Complex is a smart farm agro-industrial convergence complex where young farmers and others can reside, produce, distribute, and process agricultural products, and provide food and attractions to visitors.
