First, Pohang City was selected as the best city/county in the 2024 Gyeongbuk Province rural development sector evaluation, which assesses overall performance in key tasks such as rural area development, local transfer projects, participation in public contests, and rural vacant house maintenance.

The city is currently steadily promoting projects such as the Heunghae-eup Rural Hub Revitalization Project and the creation of five basic living base facilities under the general agricultural and fishing village development project, rural spatial maintenance projects, the vulnerable area living condition improvement project in Songra Daejeon 1-ri, the New Vitality Plus Project, and village-making projects. Especially this year, Pohang was selected as an excellent city/county in Gyeongbuk Province due to its selection for large-scale public contest projects such as the Rural Agreement Project and the vulnerable area living condition improvement project in Gyeongbuk Inbiri.

Also, on the 19th, in the 2024 Carbon Neutrality Practice Excellent Local Government Evaluation hosted by Gyeongbuk Province, Pohang City was awarded the ‘Grand Prize’ in recognition of its achievements in spreading awareness of carbon neutrality and establishing lifestyle practice movements.

The main evaluation items included ▲achievement rate of greenhouse gas reduction targets ▲results of climate crisis adaptation measures implementation checks ▲electric vehicle distribution performance ▲carbon point system subscription and operation ▲promotion of environmental projects related to climate change ▲carbon neutrality lifestyle practice publicity campaigns. Pohang was recognized for promoting various carbon neutrality projects and encouraging active citizen participation, presenting exemplary cases of practice and publicity.

In particular, Pohang City solidified its position as a leading carbon neutrality city by achieving excellent results in this evaluation following the Minister of Environment Award in the ‘Carbon Neutrality Best Practice Implementation Performance’ category hosted by the Ministry of Environment last November.

Furthermore, Pohang received the excellence award in the 2024 Gyeongbuk Province Forest Administration Institutional Evaluation, which assesses the execution performance of forest projects promoted by each city and county.

The evaluation was based on 11 items across three fields, using data from the province itself, materials submitted by cities and counties, and the 2024 government joint evaluation. Pohang was recognized for outstanding achievements in ▲forest policy ▲forest resource cultivation and utilization ▲forest protection fields, earning the excellence award in the comprehensive evaluation of forest administration (forest resource sector).

Notably, the city was selected for major Korea Forest Service public contest projects in the forest income sector, such as the ‘Gyeongsang Area Forest Products Logistics Terminal Construction Project’ and the ‘Gyeongsang Area Wood Resource Center.’ It was highly evaluated for sequentially carrying out construction by devising various methods to improve the income of forestry workers.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “This award is an external recognition of Pohang City’s efforts so far,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to enhance the satisfaction of local residents through rural development projects and carbon neutrality promotion.”
