The final report meeting was held with the attendance of Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang, Choi Young-soo, Director of the Self-Sufficient City Realization Bureau, Lee Byung-young, Director of the Future Industry Division, and experts from related organizations such as the National Museum of Korea, POSTECH Science and Technology Promotion Center, and Hongik University.
Through this research service, Goyang Special City reviewed various plans for the "Goyang-type Science Museum Construction" reflecting the Ministry of Science and ICT’s science museum construction policy and the 12 national strategic technologies.
According to the research results, the specialized themes of the Goyang-type Science Museum will be set and promoted with topics linked to Goyang City's representative industries such as broadcasting, video, and content.
In addition, while reviewing the optimal site for the construction of the science museum, emphasis was placed on establishing a "roadmap for the construction of a science museum suitable for Goyang City’s characteristics," considering △exhibition space composition plans △project costs by building scale △policy and economic ripple effects.
Currently, although Goyang City is the only special city in northern Gyeonggi Province, it lacks science museums that can be used as spaces for science and technology experience and education. While southern Gyeonggi Province meets science demand centered around the National Gwacheon Science Museum, the northwestern metropolitan area including Goyang City is relatively neglected in the construction of science cultural facilities.
Accordingly, Goyang City has set a goal to strengthen science cultural infrastructure linked to local industries through the construction of a science museum and to lead science education and the popularization of science culture.
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang City said, "We will contribute to the popularization of science culture through the construction of the Goyang City Science Museum," and added, "I hope that an original science museum with various scientific contents and scalability will be created based on this research service."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Science and ICT is promoting projects for the construction of the Wonju Medical and Life Science Museum in Gangwon Province, the Ulsan Carbon Neutral Science Museum, and the Pohang Earth and Marine Science Museum.
